Dragonfly Dress Design is wholly owned and run by me, Lisa Cochrane.
My background is in costume design: I have a degree in Performance Costume Design and worked in theatre for over 10 years, creating garments for every kind of production, from musicals to period pieces. I loved the pace and excitement of theatre, but I wanted the freedom of running my own business.
Working on wedding dresses can be stressful, since every detail has to be perfect, but it takes a lot to rattle me. When I was a costume designer, I was part of a team that won a World Record for staging a production of Oklahoma in under 24 hours. We got the script at 8pm on the Friday night, and we had to stage, rehearse and publicise the show by 8pm on the Saturday. It was crazy, but we did it - so you can be sure that producing your dress on time will be no problem!
I set up Dragonfly Dress Design in Feb 2007, initially working out of West Calder and moved to Glasgow's west end early March 2009. I love working in a studio environment: a cosy hideaway where my clients can take their time choosing dresses, materials, styles and colours, surrounded by beautiful gowns and accessories.
This really is my dream job: I spend my days working with stunning fabrics, helping brides unlock their own creativity and making dresses that will become part of a family history.
